UK Cup

After another solid year with good grids, the Competition Car Insurance Radical UK Cup enters 2010 better than ever, with half the grid slots already filled for the coming year.

By popular demand this year’s UK Cup will travel overseas to two of Europe’s most challenging driver’s circuits, the demanding Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium, and the technical Nürburgring GP circuit in Germany. Sharing track time with the Radical European Masters series, these events will offer outstanding value-for-money, with up to five hours of track time per weekend.

The popular 40-minute enduro, two-driver race format continues in 2010, with the series welcoming both professional and amateur drivers alike. An equalisation formula means that gentleman drivers have just as much chance for glory as the pros, ensuring close racing. Competitors will receive exclusive, high-quality series jackets and merchandise, and all are eligible to enter the Sunoco Rolex 24 At Daytona Driver Challenge, a chance to win a drive at the 2011 Daytona 24 Hours.

Championship features:
• 2x40-minute endurance races per weekend, featuring pit-stop driver change
• Additional points for fastest lap and pole position per class
• Control tyres and series scrutineer to minimise cost and ensure equal competition
• Class structure:
 Masters: SR8 Supersport (2.6l)
 Supersport: SR3 and SR3 RS
 Invitation: run at the organiser’s discretion

Competition Car Insurance Radical UK Cup: Castle Combe, Race 2

19th July 2010

Castle Combe hosted another electrifying race this morning, with current Competition Car Insurance Radical UK Cup leaders Terrence Woodward and Ross Kaiser taking the second of the weekend’s UK Cup victories. On a challenging track dampened by persistent drizzle, the 360 Racing pair took victory by less than nine seconds after 40 minutes of racing.Terrence was first into Avon Rise on the first lap, chased by teammate Derek Johnston, and Sollatek’s Manhal Allos. Quickest of the Supersport runners was Radical veteran Ian Flux, hot on the heels of Allos and using the SR3 RS’ superb wet-weather balance to good effect.Johnston ...

Competition Car Insurance Radical UK Cup: Castle Combe, Race 1

17th July 2010

The experience of 2009 Castle Combe GT Champion Simon Tilling paid dividends this afternoon, taking the first Competition Car Insurance Radical UK Cup win of the weekend in his SR3 RS. After an early safety car period, Tilling was able to capitalise on his road position and take the lead from the 360 Racing pairing of Ross Kaiser and Terrence Woodward.Kaiser had a strong start, with teammate Derek Johnston following him for the first ten laps, Shaun Balfe also in tow. Rob Wheldon had qualified third but was outgunned at the start by the SR8s. However, he was able to resist Manhal Allos until the safety car was deployed on lap 11, for three la...

Radical @ Castle Combe: Qualifying

16th July 2010

Qualifying for the Competition Car Insurance Radical UK Cup and Quaife Radical Clubman’s Cup has just finished, with perfect driving conditions following a night of heavy rain. The Westcountry circuit dried rapid during the Clubman’s Cup qualifying, although the asphalt was still a little slippery for those on fresh slicks. Radical newcomer Craig Currie took a surprise pole position, underlining just how easy the SR3 RS is to drive fast, straight-out-the box. With a fastest lap of 1:05.905, Currie pipped PR6 driver Mark Abbott to the first grid sport, this pair ahead of Clubman’s Cup stalwarts Darren Luke and Colin Millar. On...
