Quaife Radical Clubman's Cup: Castle Combe, Race 1

17th July 2010

Darren Luke showed that he’s the man to beat in this season’s Quaife Radical Clubman’s Cup, with a secure victory in Race 1 at Castle Combe, in his 1340cc PR6. With a clean start to pass polesitter Craig Currie, Luke was unchallenged all the way to the flag, with plenty of action behind.

Radical rookie Currie had a slow start and was passed by Luke and Mark Abbott, dropping out of the top six. 2009 series champion Colin Millar also had a poor start, but quickly found the pace, and by lap five was lying fourth overall. Darren Anley was another improving driver, rising to fourth through the field in his older-spec SR3, briefly running as high as third before being passed by Millar for the final podium place.

Further down the field there were plenty of battles for class position. Chris Hillaby made an audacious move on Mark White around the outside of Camp corner; the pair only inches apart, he made the pass stick and held position to the flag.

Luke took the overall and Prosport Class victory, with Invitation class runner Steven Lindsay chasing him home in second. Colin Millar took the Supersports victory, third overall, with Andy Harwood again taking the Clubsport spoils ahead of Simon Garmston.
