Radical Scales Up For A Record Weekend
5th May 2010
Peterborough sportscar manufacturer is scaling up for its busiest-ever weekend, with a record 78 cars in action over the next four days at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium, and Snetterton in the UK.
Radical’s pan-European series, the Shell Racing Solutions Radical Masters, kicks off at the legendary Belgian circuit, and will be joined by competitors from the Competition Car Insurance Radical UK Cup. This series normally pairs with the Quaife Radical Clubman’s Cup for UK rounds, but this weekend Radical’s entry level series will be representing Radical alone on the Dunlop Great & British package at Snetterton.
The 70-driver Spa entry includes 17 SR8 Supersports and SR8 LMs, 22 SR3s, 2 SR5s, 2 PR6s and 2 SR4s, a real representation of the current Radical range. Amongst those joining the series for the first time are a contingent of Czech SR3 RS and SR4s, including Radical Czech distributor Zbyněk Passer. A wealth of countries are represented, not only from the UK and mainland Europe, but also from the Middle East, Australia and the USA.
All of the main UK Cup championship protagonists are making their way to Belgium to contest the two 45-minute races, including current series leader and 2009 Uk Cup Champion, Derek Johnston. Johnston is closely followed by the Radical Works Team pairing of David Thorburn and Rob Wheldon, also leading the Supersports class for the SR3.
At Snetterton, a 32-car entry means more fast and thrilling racing in Radical’s evergreen entry-level championship. Colin Millar currently leads the standings in his new-for-2010 SR3 RS on 44 points, but he’s closely pursued by double Rockingham race winner Darren Luke, currently second with 42 points, and first in the Prosport class.
