Exciting Ending For The 2010 Nevada Cup

24th March 2010

The last round of this year's Radical Nevada Cup series was held at the beautiful Circuito de Guadix near Granada within the Andalusian hills.

For the participants of the Radical Masters 2010 it was one of the last chances to get prepared before the season starts in May. Several Radical drivers found their way down to Southern Spain with the expectation of a sunny and warm spring weekend...stark contrast to the first, cloudy day!

Race 1 was a wet race, a slight rain shower following the qualifiying. This saw Mike Gardiner/Phil Keen (SR8) on pole and Thomas Meidinger (SR5) on second place, followed by Chris Hillaby in his SR3 RS.

Gardiner started from the pitlane. Right from the start the spectators saw a tough fight between Meidinger, Christian Droop in the works SR3 RS and Fred van Putten (SR3). Van Putten was ahead into the first corner, but after three laps Meidinger passed him and grew a considerable gap between himself and the battling Droop/van Putten.

However, as in Almeria, Mike Gardiner did a great job and scythed through the field on his way top the front. As the rain became heavier, all competitors decided to go on wets. At the end Gardiner/Keen won the race, after a flawless run. Less than a tenth separated them and Meidinger in second place, in front of Roger Berndtson/Luis Javier Romero in their SR3.

The second day started as day one ended....with rain! After heavy rain showers during the night the track was extremely wet. Again Gardiner/Keen set the pole for Race 2, followed by Meidinger in the second starting positon and Droop / Wheldon third.

Droop and Hillaby, both in new SR3 RS‘, had a close battle with a slight touch at the end of the first lap, when Droop defended his position. Meidinger initally lost out his starting position, but fought back and put enormous pressure on Droop. After the pit window the spectators saw a controlled race from all competitors, which again saw Gardiner/Keen finish first, followed by Droop/Wheldon in second place and (despite a spin) Hillaby in third.

Reflecting on this year’s Nevada Cup series, Alexander Tauer, Radical Sportscars Germany, said: “It was good season preparation for the Radical Masters competitors, and I am really looking forward to the first race of the Masters in Spa at the beginning of May!“

Radical Germany, in association with Radical Netherlands and Race Circuit Zandvoort is offering a free test on the 2-3 April at Zandvoort. For further information please contact the team by clicking here.
