Record Radical Grids In 2010
11th January 2010
Radical Sportscars is preparing for its busiest-ever year in 2010, with record grids anticipated for the Peterborough-based sportscar constructor’s two domestic series. Nearly 40 teams have already signed up for the coming season, a mix of both experienced and new Radical owners taking advantage of the ‘early bird’ discounted entry fees.
Over two-thirds of the Quaife Radical Clubman’s Cup has already signed up, with full grids expected for the opening rounds at Rockingham in April. Amongst the new drivers joining the series are two new additions to the Radical Works squad; Scottish FFord and Legends driver David Thorburn, and rookie racer Mark White. Both drivers will be piloting Radical’s acclaimed SR3 RS.
With half of the Radical UK Cup also signed up for the coming year, grid slots are rapidly running out for prospective racers in this eight-round, enduro-format championship. 14 teams have already entered, including series newcomers Moore Racing, supporting an SR8 Supersport driven by Mike Gardiner and 2009 British GT class champion Phil Keen. Pete Osbourne, 2006 and 2007 Carrera Cup competitor, will also be contesting the series in a new SR3 RS. All are eligible to enter the Sunoco Rolex 24 At Daytona Driver Challenge, a chance to win a drive at the 2011 Daytona 24 Hours.
Last year’s championship protagonists Derek Johnston, Terrence Woodward and Roger Bromiley will be back in action battling for the UK Cup spoils, as well as established Clubman’s Cup players Jonathan Wright, Colin Millar and Darren Luke, with both championships promising to offer fascinating racing for both drivers and spectators alike. Entrants to both championships will receive exclusive high-quality series jackets and merchandise, unique to the two series.
“I’ve been extremely pleased with the uptake of places in both championships; despite tough economic conditions for many racers, it proves that Radical racing is a more attractive and cost-effective package than ever,” said Amanda Abbott, Championship Co-ordinator. “Both series are filling up fast, so if you want to enter, you’ve got to be quick to avoid disappointment.”
Radical has extended its ‘early bird’ entry fee discount until the close of the Autosport International Show, held between Thursday 14 and Sunday 17 January at the NEC, Birmingham. Radical will be attending Europe’s largest motorsports show with the full Radical range, alongside one surprise addition; to find out more, visit Radical’s official press event on stand 2600 at 09:30 on Thursday.
