Hugo Pereira wins 2009 Portugese GT Championship
16th December 2009
Hugo Pereira has scooped the 2009 Portugese GT Championship with his Radical SR3, following a consistently successful season against more powerful machinery, including GT3 Porsche 911s, Lister Storms and Junos.
Hugo was one of the fastest drivers on track right from the beginning of the season, with multiple pole positions, fastest laps and high points finishes resulting in him being crowned National Champion.
“In a year when the financial crisis affected many championships, the GT/Prototype Championship always had big grids, with 30-35 competitive cars on track, creating great racing and interest amongst the spectators,” said Hugo.
“It was one of the most competitive championships of the last few years, and it is great to add another Championship title to my CV, which hopefully will help me for future opportunities. The Radical European Masters or Portuguese Touring Car Championship are options for 2010. I would like to thank my friends and family, my sponsors, Araujo Competition, Radical Sportscars and Powertec UK for their superb support.”
Hugo’s 2009 results:
Portimao: Pole position, win and second-place finish
Estoril: Pole position, win and second-place finish, fastest lap
Boavista: Pole Position, win and DNF
Vila Real: DNS
Braga: Pole position, two wins, fastest lap
Portimao: Fastest lap
